Belgrade has total of 16 islands on the rivers, many still unused. Among them, the Great War Island, at the confluence of Sava, stands out as an oasis of unsheltered wildlife. There are museum houses with collection of more than 400,000 exhibits (over 5600 paintings and 8400 drawings and prints, including many foreign masters like Bosch, Juan de Flandes, Titian, Tintoretto, Rubens, Van Dyck, Cézanne, G.B. Tiepolo, Renoir, Monet, Lautrec, Matisse, Picasso, Gauguin, Chagall, Van Gogh, Mondrian etc.

The Centre of Skadarlija and the surrounding neighborhood are lined with some of Belgrade's best and oldest traditional restaurants which date back to that period. At one end of the neighborhood stands Belgrade's oldest beer brewery, founded in the first half of the 19th century. Many weekend visitors around the world prefer Belgrade nightlife due to its perceived friendly atmosphere with  bars and cheap drinks.
